Tips how to save and lessen your electric bill.


REFRIGERATOR
  • Keep your freezer defrosted.
  • Leave space around the fridge so that heat generated can escape.
  • Check the door seal to ensure cold air isn't escaping.
LIVING ROOM
  • Turn your television off at the power point and don't leave other appliances - including computers - on standby.
  • Once your mobile is fully charged, turn its charger off at the power point.
  • If you have downlights, install electric dimmer switches to reduce the energy used for lighting.
  • Swap to energy-efficient compact flourescent globes.
BEDROOM/ALL ROOMS
  • Use reading lamps to illuminate your room instead of lighting the entire room.
  • Turn the air conditioner on about 30minutes before going to bed, then turn it off at bedtime.
  • Consider using ceiling fans instead of an air conditioner.
  • Keep your air conditioner filters clean.
  • Use electric fans instead where possible.
LAUNDRY/DISHWASHING
  • Buy energy efficient models.
  • Use low water settings and cold water whenever practical.
  • Use clothes line and let the sun do the drying when possible.
  • Don't underload or overload the dryer.
  • Choose warm dryer setting rather than hot.
  • Save the ironing until you have several items to do.
  • Turn the dishwasher off before the final drying cycle, then open the door for natural drying.
  • Always wash full loads. Remember that using dishwasher when fully loaded can cost less than washing dishes by hand.
